Despite the fact that Dominican Republic is a developing country, private medical facilities in Santo Domingo have international standards. We have a direct contact with a private air rescue company, with the medical and rescue crew ready to takeoff within 10 minutes from the emergency call. We suggest bringing sun glasses to protect your vision. The UV exposure in the Caribbean is not higher than in the rest of the world, but we will spend quite a bit of time outdoors in the sun. If you wear contact lenses with no prescription, make sure you find appropriate sunglasses to wear on top.

Can I rent or buy flying equipment there?

As we are concentrated mainly in paragliding, we distribute paragliders from Ozone and accessories from Sup Air. We seldom have wings in stock, so you will have to ask a few weeks before coming if you want to place an order.

We occasionally have equipment for rent. Please, ask us about that before coming, too.

Do you offer guided tours to flying sites?

We specialize in paragliding adventure trips and paragliding vacations! We can tour your group around the most beautiful flying sites in Dominican Republic with a set of services available to chose from. Please, visit the Services page and find out how we can help you to spend the most unbelievable paragliding holiday!

If you're coming by yourself or can't afford spending money on tours or just want to be free to do what ever you want, don't hesitate to contact us anyway. We, and most of local pilots, will be glad to show you our flying sites and share our airspace with you. Just keep in mind that most recreational pilots here work during the week and can fly only on weekends.

Dominican Republic is a year-round paragliding paradise. Come and enjoy it with us!

Do you have an instructor available?

Caribbean Free Flying has a paragliding and paramotoring school running most of the time. However, if you are planning to come to learn to fly or would like to have personal instruction during your flights here, please contact us as soon as you can to check for instructors availability. You can also check Our Services and Price List.

Do you offer tandem flights?

Yes, we do. The prices are quite reasonable and they vary depending on the flying site. Please, contact us for availability before coming to be sure we can keep our promise.

Do you offer accommodation?

For the moment, we can only offer accommodation for individuals in Azua. We manage a small beach hotel specially devoted to the paragliding comunity.

If you are planning to come with a group of pilots or family in a paragliding vacation, then we can offer a tour with transportation, guidance and accommodation included. Check our Services page and find out how we can help you have a great paragliding adventure in the Caribbean!

Do you offer transport to and from flying sites?

For the moment, we can't offer that kind of services for individuals, but if you are planning to come with a group of pilots or family in a paragliding trip, then we can offer a tour with transportation, guidance and accommodation included. Check our Services page and find out about our paragliding tours.

If you're coming on your own, you can count on the fact that most of the local pilots would be glad to take you with them to the flying sites. Just keep in mind that most of them work during the week and can fly only on weekends.

You can also consider renting a car. You will need a four wheel drive vehicle to reach most of the takeoffs.

Can you pick me up from the airport?

If you chose to take advantage of one of our paragliding tours, the airport transfer is included in the Paragliding Vacation Package. Otherwise, you can hire the service separately. You'll find the prices in the Services page... please, check it out.

Which airport should I fly to?

Of course that would depend on what your plans were.

If you will be touring with us, the usual is Las Americas International Airport (SDQ). Herrera International Airport would be fine too. We can handle the transfer from any other airport as well, but you have to take into account it will be a much longer drive to our destination...

If you're coming on your own, keep in mind that most of the pilots live in Santo Domingo. That means Las Américas International Airport would be a wise choice as well.

If you have other plans and want to go to the north coast (Puerto Plata International Airport) or to the east coast (Punta Cana International Airport), then you would have a three or four hour drive to Santo Domingo. For more info about the location of the different cities, roads, beaches and airports, check a detailed map.

What if I have an accident when flying with you?

Paragliding is an activity that involves risks. Our knowledge on local conditions can help avoid making judgment mistakes that could lead to accidents, but there are other variables we cannot handle.

While it's not required, we recommend having a full international insurance that would take care of the costs of an emergency rescue (helicopter) and repatriation (air ambulance).

Despite the fact that Dominican Republic is a developing country, private medical facilities in Santo Domingo have international standards. We have a direct contact with a private air rescue company, with the medical and rescue crew ready to takeoff within 10 minutes from the emergency call.

Caribbean Free Flying will require it's clients to sign a Legal Disclaimer on arrival.

General topics:

Where is the Dominican Republic?

Hispaniola is the island located between Cuba and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Sea. Dominican Republic shares Hispaniola with it's only neighbor, Haiti. For more info about the location of the different cities, roads, beaches and airports, check a detailed tourist map (170 kb).

Which is the best flying season?

There is no definite flying season... we are in a permanent summer, which means we can fly all the year round! In spite of that, we have a favorite season for each flying site. We could say the best XC season in the southwestern sites is the winter(north hemisphere). Visit the page Flying Sites for more info.

What kind of flying do you have?

We could say we have conditions for every type of flight, from gentle soaring by the sea to strong thermal conditions in the mountains and main valleys, and also cloud base flying in the eastern plains. XC flying is outstanding in the southwest and Central Range. But again, please visit the page Flying Sites for more info.

What's the weather like?

Dominican Republic has different micro climates in different areas. The predominate climate is Tropical. But you can find an impressive variety of flora and fauna in the island. From the humid plains in the east with dense palm tree woods in the coasts to humid cold woods in the mountains. You can also find desert areas in the southwest, where it seldom rains.

Predominate winds blow from East North East. The Alisios Winds come from Europe all the way across the Atlantic Ocean.

We have two short rainy seasons: September-October and a couple of weeks in March.

Where can I stay for a few days?

For the moment, we can't offer accommodation for individuals. You would have to find the hotel that best suits your needs. Dominican Republic's main industry is tourism, so you shouldn't find it difficult to get exactly what you want.

If you are planning to come with a group of pilots or family in a free flying trip, then we can arrange a tour with transportation, guidance and accommodations included. Please, check our Services page for more info on our paragliding vacations package.

Are there any flying sites nearby the Resort I'm going to?

First, find out the exact location of the resort you are going to. Most resorts are located either on the north (Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete), east (Samaná, Punta Cana, Bavaro) or south east coasts (La Romana, Bayahibe, Juan Dolio).

Once you know where you will be, check the page Flying Sites to see which flying area you will be more likely to visit.

One thing you definitely have to know is that most local pilots (95 %) live in Santo Domingo and the flying sites they visit most are the ones in the southwest coast and in the middle of the island. So, if you pick a place too far away from Santo Domingo, you may go to the take off and find nothing but beautiful cumulus... then you would be on your own !

What do I need to fly there?

For the moment there are no restrictions nor requisites to fly in Dominican Republic. However, the first Paragliding Association has been created and some regulations may result from that. We will be the first to let you know about it, but don't worry... there is still free flying over here !

Of course we would suggest international health insurances and safe equipment !

If you are flying with us in one of your tours, you will need a VHF transceiver.

Are there any clubs, schools or organizations related to free flying?

Caribbean Free Flying is the only company devoted to promoting Dominican Republic as a world class free flying destination. Our paragliding and paramotoring school is running most of the time, however, if you are planning to come to learn to fly or would like to have personal instruction during your flights here, please contact us as soon as you can to check for instructors availability. Also, check Our Services and Price List.
